I recently sat down with the owners of BN Locations, Prism Lens FX and Tropic Color – YOUNG BOSSES Jakob & Shanel Owens to learn a bit more about turning Jakob’s passions into seven-figure businesses. I’m excited to share with you my three main takeaways from this incredible conversation.
#1 – You Can Learn Anything Online
Once a film student at ASU, Jakob had a hard time showing up to class but it wasn’t due to normal circumstances.. Jakob was getting paid to shoot and direct music videos years before his projected graduation date. So, he skipped class to work with the likes of Futuristic and other regional musical artists at the time. That being said, Jakob is a HUGE advocate of YouTube University, if you don’t know how to do something – it’s simple. Look it up.
I think this goes back to being resourceful. Successful people are resourceful, they tap into their mentors, friends, colleagues, and of course, the internet – they do whatever it takes.
#2 – You Are Destined to Fail
Woah, woah, woah!! I’m not saying (and neither is Jake) that you’ll never find success chasing your dreams. What we’re saying is, there will be setbacks and L’s along the way, that’s just the way it is (things will never be the saaaame IYKYK).
As Shanel so perfectly put it, “If every entrepreneur was winning 100% of the time, EVERYBODY would be an entrepreneur.”
#3 – Pursue What You Love
Ooof – easier said than done.. (Or is it?). A recent survey of 33,000 American adults said they would prefer to work a job they love for lower pay than work a job they hate for higher pay.
“Whatever you’re doing or wanting to pursue, make sure that you love it. If you love what you’re doing, it will ultimately make it easier for you to find success in that pursuit,” said Jakob.
At the end of the day it comes down to spending your time pursuing the things you love with other equally motivated and determined individuals.
Remember, youth is your power.
