It’s our habits that truly define us. The actions we take over and over are a direct reflection of the person we are or are trying to become. Subconsciously, habits control us.. Unless you find a way to control your habits. Here are a few key takeaways from my most recent podcast all about Habits.
1. Habits are responsible for results.
The habits you have today are directly responsible for the results you’re getting in your life. If you want to change your results, you need to change your habits. It really is that simple.
2. It’s all about getting better every day.
Don’t try to change everything all at once. Get ready for the overplayed cliche (that’s just as overwhelmingly accurate as it is overused): Just focus on getting 1% better every day. Over time, those small improvements will add up to big results.
3. Make your habits a lifestyle.
Don’t think of your habits as something you have to do. Think of them as part of your lifestyle. The more you do something, the easier it becomes. So make your habits a part of your everyday routine and they’ll soon become second nature.
Here are some extra tidbits that you can take with you:
Start small. Don’t try to do too much too soon. Start with one small habit and focus on making that a part of your routine. Once you’ve mastered that habit, you can add or remove another one.
Make it easy. The easier it is to do something, the more likely you are to do it. Some of the laziest people are the most successful. Why? Because they’ve found easy ways to do hard or time consuming things. So make your habits as easy as possible. For example, if you want to start exercising, put your workout clothes out the night before so you can just get up and go in the morning.
Find an accountability partner. Having someone to hold you accountable makes a HUGE difference. Find a friend, family member, or coworker who is also trying to create positive habits and check in with each other on a regular basis. Heck, you may even make a new friend!
Celebrate your successes. When you reach a goal, take some time to celebrate your success. This will help you stay motivated and keep moving forward. But, don’t lose sight of the ultimate goal.
Creating positive habits takes time and effort, but it’s worth it. When you have positive habits, you’ll be more productive, more successful, and happier. So what are you waiting for? Start creating positive habits today!
